Hamish MacDonald - Wilson’s Ornithology & Burds in Scots

Hamish MacDonald is a Highland based writer and performance poet. His poetry collection Wilson’s Ornithology & Burds in Scots (Scotland Street Press 2020, 2nd ed.2022), a series of new poems in Scots set alongside illustrations by Scottish naturalist and founder of American ornithology Alexander Wilson (1766-1813) was published to broad acclaim. He has contributed to various anthologies including poems and translations for Scots imprint Itchy Coo publishing. Hamish was also the first Robert Burns Writing Fellow for Dumfries and Galloway Arts Association and first Scots Scriever at the National Library of Scotland. As a performance poet he became Scottish Slam poetry champion in 2022 and runner-up at the Coupe du Monde de Poesie in Paris in the same year, as well as performing at the World Poetry Slam finals in Rio de Janeiro in 2023. He is also the Bankies Bard, honorary poet of Clydebank Football Club.
